Display Energy Certificates

  • What is a DEC?

A Display Energy Certificate (DEC) shows a building's energy performance based on actual annual consumption over up to three years (Operational Rating). Ratings range from A to G, with A being the best and G the worst. The OR compares energy use to a benchmark for its building type (OR 100). Zero emissions receive an OR of zero, and double emissions get an OR of 200. Even energy-generating buildings get an OR of zero.

  • Who needs a DEC?

Display Energy Certificates (DECs) have been mandatory for public buildings with a total useful floor area over 1,000 sq.m since October 1st, 2008. These buildings must be regularly frequented by a large number of people and either occupied or part-occupied by:
    - Public Authorities (e.g., local and national governments, NHS Trusts, MOD, Schools, and Universities, Executive Agencies, and Regulatory Bodies)
    - Bodies providing public services on behalf of local or national governments, required to prominently display the DEC within the building.

  • What will the DEC cost?

The cost will depend on the building's complexity, not just its size. To provide an accurate quote, we require specific details from you. Feel free to reach out through a call, email, or our online quote form.
